Beginning of the end or end of the beginning

Well, I'm not a big fan of prime numbers. I know as a math teacher I should love all numbers equally, like children, or whatever, but prime numbers bug me.  They aren't very useful and they're annoying to factor!  In fact, you can't really, so it means you need to use the quadratic formula, after spending time trying to factor.  Yes, it's silly, but come on!

2014 is composite.   Lovely.  Even.  Balanced.   Just how I would like the new year to go!

Plans

About a week ago, coworkers asked about my holiday/vacation plans and I said that beyond Christmas, I didn't have any plans.   Well, it's now staring me in the face that I really DON'T have any plans for the last week of break.  It's a nice dilemma, but a weird one.   I'm finding myself doing odd little things like googling how to speed up my PC and deleting random photos that are slowing down said PC.   It's a strange way to spend my precious free time, or at least I think it's strange.  Usually I head out shopping over break, often to the Twin Cities.  I don't think it'll happen this year.   So, I guess I need suggestions of adventures to have around Duluth.

If you are still reading this blog (which I'm oh so slow at updating), please feel free to suggest fun!

Eons

So, it's been eons since I blogged.  I don't know why.  Do I think I'm boring?  Not really.  I'm pretty good at making even total strangers laugh.  Am I busy?   Not really.  I have a serious TV addiction that I didn't have a couple years ago.  Maybe it's just that I fell out of the habit.   Yep, let's go with that.

I read a magazine called Artful Blogging.  This might be good for my blog or very, very bad for my blog.  You see, it might just raise the bar higher than I feel like going in my spare time.  Or, I just fell out of the habit.

For now, I will share my TV obsessions, in no particular order, well..... sort of:

Dr. Who
Scandal
The Mindy Project
The New Girl
Once Upon a Time
Castle
The Vicar of Dibley
Rita (from Denmark)
This Old House, but only watching with my dad

Yep, so my best friends these days are The Doctor, Olivia Pope, Dr. Mindy Lahiri, Jessica Day, Richard Castle, Snow White, Geraldine Granger, Rita's daughter Molly, and Kevin O'Connor.

Movie of the Day: Sister Act  (There were a lot of HABITS in that one!)

January

January doesn't seem like the most fabulous month.  It's still pretty dark out and there aren't any "fun" holidays.   Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a serious thing that usually doesn't involve throwing a party.  Everyone is trying to "be good" with their food and exercise, etc., at least for a couple days.

It turns out, I like January.  It's cold and dark, perfect for napping and going to bed early.  Lots of stores are focused on organizing things, which I like to do!  (Or at least have the supplies to do, ha ha).  So, instead of feeling upset that it's January, I'm going to be happy about it.  Care to join me?

Good Quote

Snow. It's here a day early.

Teachers love snow days.  Okay, maybe not ALL teachers, but the ones who are good at being flexible, love the idea of an unscheduled day at home with no expectations of having to go out.  The only thing to worry about it shoveling, which is a small price to pay for many hours of free time.

The best part of a snow day in December is that most of us have random holiday chores to accomplish.  How many years do I write out Christmas cards on a snow day or finally get around to doing my dishes?

So, today is a Sunday and while I had planned to be at church, singing, I am home, listening to Julie Andrews singing Christmas songs (best birthday gift ever, thanks Mom and Dad!) and looking at which part of my To Do list to tackle first.

Oh, as a side note, school had it's Talent Shows this week and two different acts used the song Hallejuiah by  Leonard Cohen.  So, I just looked it up and listened to a couple versions.   Beautiful!

Too Many Options

I have an entire bookshelf FULL (okay, okay, overflowing) with craft stuff.   Books of ideas, Rubbermaid containers of ribbon, rubber stamps, beads, paint, brushes, stickers, magnets, water color paper, canvases, tracing paper.  You name it, and I most likely have it.

Now, I'm finding I might have some time to use all these goodies and I don't know where to start!
